Friday fun

Happy Friday, everyone. ☺

Thanks again for all the prayers and well-wishes for my husband. He had a minor setback yesterday, but I was able to bring him home last night. He's starting to feel a little better, but he still has a long road ahead of him.

It was quite the week here, and I'm looking forward to a relaxing weekend. Have a great Saturday and Sunday. ☺

Quick update

Happy Thursday!

I just wanted to give you all a quick update on my husband. The surgery went well, and thankfully, he's not having too much pain. My daughter and I will be bringing him home around noon today, and I'm hoping to learn more about his operation then. Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers.

In other news, I'm not sure yet if I'll be posting my "Friday fun" tomorrow or not. Hopefully, I'll have time to work on it, but I'm not quite sure what today will bring. We shall see... ☺

Wishing you all a wonderful Thursday.

Nervous...

Happy Tuesday, everyone. I hope you're all having a great week so far. ☺

Several weeks ago, I mentioned that my husband would be needing surgery. Well, that surgery will take place tomorrow, and I have to admit that I'm a little nervous. (I think he is, too.) Last December, he was diagnosed with very early stage prostate cancer, and after learning about his options, he decided on the surgery. His main goal was to have the operation sooner rather than later, as he hopes to be as back-to-normal as possible before our daughter is born in April. He'll be out of work for at least four weeks, rehabbing mainly on our couch. Recovery from this kind of surgery takes time, and we're hoping and praying that everything goes smoothly.

Anyway, if you don't see me around here quite as much this week—or in subsequent weeks—you'll know why. ☺ I'd appreciate any prayers and good thoughts you'd care to send my husband's way.

Wishing you all a terrific Tuesday. ☺

The one where I reappear

Image courtesy of Carlos Paes, rgbstock.com
Happy Thursday, friends.

Wow! It's been a few days since my last post. Whereas last week I "disappeared" because of a fall (mine), a case of mono (my son's), and surgery preparation (my husband's), this week I've been off doing something fun.

One of my goals this year is to do more art journaling, something I'm discovering I really, really enjoy. I signed up for a year-long workshop, and I've been having so much fun creating this week that I haven't been here as much as I wanted to be. Art has become kind of an obsession. I've been reading all the art journaling books I can find and watching wonderful artists who've created helpful videos on techniques. I'm having a blast!

Today I'm still in an artistic mood, and when I feel this way, I love listening to one of my favorite spoken-word poets, Tanya Davis. I've highlighted her work on my blog several times. I especially love her collaborations with artist Andrea Dorfman—perhaps because they're doing what I want to do and combining two of my loves: art and words. The video I posted below, "Eulogy for you and Me," is one of their collaborations that I've been obsessed with recently. Even though the video is on the sad side, it's beautifully written and animated—and it puts me in the mood to create, which is always a good thing. ☺ I hope you enjoy it, too.

What's your latest obsession?

Wishing you all a fantastic Thursday. ☺

Sunday inspiration

Happy Sunday!

Today's inspiration comes from Marcel Kiss, a 22-year-old self-taught Slovakian artist who creates amazingly realistic pencil drawings of Hollywood stars. Kiss, who has been drawing for only three years, spends between twenty and forty hours on each sketch, working to make every detail as lifelike as possible. I wish I could draw half as well!

The video I've posted below shows how Kiss created a portrait of Rick Grimes, a character from The Walking Dead. If you'd liked to learn more about Kiss, check out this short YouTube video, which features several of his sketches of Hollywood stars. Enjoy!

Wishing you all a creative and inspirational Sunday. ☺

Friday fun

Happy Friday!

Thank you so much for all your wonderful comments on yesterday's post. It's definitely been a stressful week—but it's almost the weekend now, and I'm looking forward to resting up and relaxing.

Because of this week's craziness, I wasn't able to gather funny signs for today, but I did manage to collect a few funny videos. Enjoy—and have a great weekend. ☺

Oh, what a week!

Happy Thursday, friends.

I'm sorry I've been AWOL for so long. It's been an eventful few days. Here are just some of the highlights:

• My son was diagnosed with mono (Poor little guy—he's miserable.)
• I slipped on a wet floor, fell on my 27-weeks' pregnant belly, and had to get an unscheduled ultrasound to check on the baby. (She's fine. ☺)
• My husband and I have been preparing for the surgery he needs to get at the end of the month. (So stressful...)

Good things happened, too, of course, but I have to say that I'm more than ready for a peaceful and quiet weekend.

Until then, I'll let Louis Armstrong remind us all that, in spite of our troubles, this really is a wonderful world. ☺

Wishing you all a wonderful Thursday. ☺

Friday fun

Happy Friday!

I hope you all had a great week. It was an unusual one here, mainly because of all the cancellations caused by the Polar Vortex, and I'm looking forward to a relaxing weekend of writing, art journaling, and shopping for a crib and other baby items. I hope you have some fun plans as well. Whatever you do, have a wonderful weekend. ☺

Brr... It's cold out there!

Happy Tuesday, all!

It's a cold, cold day here in western New York. Even though school just started up again yesterday, today the kids are enjoying an unexpected snow day, and since my son is home from school, I feel like I, too, have been granted a day off. There are some things I have to do, of course (laundry—ugh), but I think I'll also take the opportunity to do some fun stuff as well—like playing with the kids (my son kicks my butt in Mario Kart!), art journaling, and maybe even doing some work on a poetry project idea I've been kicking around. It'll be a nice break from the daily grind, and we all need that sometimes, right? What do you do when you get a break from your normal routine?

If you're also in the Polar Vortex, I hope you're staying safe and warm—and I hope you don't have problems like the guy in the video below. You've got to feel at least a little sorry for him. ;-)

Wishing you all a warm and wonderful Tuesday. ☺

Sunday inspiration

Happy Sunday!

Today's inspiration is something many book lovers may either love or despise. Contemporary artist Brian Dettmer is a book sculptor. He takes vintage nonfiction books, such as old encyclopedias and medical texts, and turns them into innovative and detailed sculptures. His art, which has been featured in galleries throughout the world, has both its proponents and its critics. Many book lovers appreciate and champion his work, but others assert that what he does is essentially book mutilation. I happen to fall with those who enjoy the beauty of his art, but I'm curious to hear what you think. The first video below tells more about Dettmer and his work; the second features some of his sculptures. Enjoy!

Wishing you all a creative and inspirational Sunday. ☺

Friday fun

Happy Friday—the first of 2014! I hope you're having a great year so far. ☺

I'll be back with more humorous signs next week. Since this is the time of year many of us are thinking about setting goals, I decided to post these two funny videos about resolutions today. Enjoy!
