Words to live by

Happy Thursday, friends.

Ever since writer Doris Lessing's recent death, I haven't been able to get one of her most famous quotes out of my mind:

"Whatever you're meant to do, do it now. The conditions are always impossible."

For me, these truly are words to live by. We can all come up with excuses not to follow our dreams right now: I'm too old. I'm too young. I'll wait until the kids are out on their own. I don't have time.... But as Lessing said, we're always going to face obstacles when it comes to doing whatever it is we're meant to be doing. There's never going to be a perfect time. The only time is now.

I feel like I'm finally doing what I need to do to make my own dreams come true. How about you? Are you doing what you're meant to do?

Wishing you all a wonderful Thursday. ☺

  2. Great quote! And a wonderful reminder. I tend to want to prepare first, to make a list, etc before starting whatever the goal/dream is. Sometimes that's a good thing, and sometimes it's more fear-based procrastination than anything else. :)

  4. That's a great quote. I always feel like I have to get mentally prepped to move forward with a goal, and the prepping sometimes takes longer than I would like. ;)

    1. I have the same problem sometimes. I'm really trying hard now just to throw myself into the things I believe I'm meant to do. That's the only way I'll have any chance of accomplishing them.

  5. So so true. Nothing worth having or doing is ever obstacle-free is it?? Why do we think that it will be???

  10. Great quote. Some days I do really think I am meant to be doing what I am doing: living. Not just existing, not surviving, but living a life I enjoy with my wife.

  11. Fantastic quote. I may not get a lot of time to do what I need to do for my dreams, but I'm still striving toward them. Even if I do something for just 5 minutes a day, that's still a wee step in the right direction. :)

    1. It took me a lot of years to realize that every step—as you say, even something I can do in five minutes—is a step toward achieving my dreams. We have to find those moments and use them!

  12. I love that quote. It's my view of things, too. If I waited until I had time to do things, I'd never do them!

  15. That's a good quote. This takes some thinking to see if I'm living my dreams. I think I've put a lot of them aside and "killed" some of them because they didn't seem possible or feasible; I think I stopped dreaming. This could be a good wakeup call I think.

  16. It's true we will never have an interruption/stress-free situation in which to work on our dreams. They have to be pursued in the midst of crazy life. Glad you hear you are feeling successful right now! I'm pursuing publication of my book...I have to keep at it!

  17. I love that quote! I'd never read it before, so thank you for sharing. It's so true that there's always going to be something we can allow to stand in the way of doing what we want/need to do. I don't think I'm doing what I'm meant to right now, but I'm working on getting a little closer. Thank you for the reminder.
