Through the eyes of babes

My five-year-old son made this chalk drawing of me a few weeks ago:

It's pretty close, don't you think? ;)

Have a happy Thursday!

What's your line?

Okay, let's be honest. Have you ever had the urge to tell someone this:

I have. It's such a great catchphrase that who can resist? And Alice had a ton of them.

Over the years, TV shows have come out with some great one-liners. Here are some of my favorites. (Admittedly, my list is a little heavy on the Seinfeld, but that show had so many great lines that I had a hard time choosing just one!):

♥ "Yada, yada, yada..." ~Seinfeld

♥ "No soup for you!" ~Seinfeld

♥ "Hello, Newman." ~Seinfeld

♥ "How you doin'?" ~Friends

♥ "I'm Larry. This is my brother Darryl, and that's my other brother Darryl." ~Newhart

♥ "Well, isn't that special?" ~Saturday Night Live

"Whatchoo talkin' 'bout, Willis?" ~Diff'rent Strokes

♥ "Let's be careful out there." ~Hill Street Blues

♥ "I love it when a plan comes together." ~The A-Team

♥ "Aaay." ~Happy Days

So what are some of your favorite television catchphrases?

NaNo? Oh, NoNo...

If you visit my blog with any regularity, you might have noticed that I removed the NaNoWriMo Web Badge from my sidebar today. Sadly, I ended up hitting a brick wall early in the month, and although I was excited about my story, I could never gain any momentum. This is the first year I've failed at NaNo, so I feel a little bummed out about that, but I really like my story idea and will definitely continue writing it on my own time.

To those of you who have already finished or are still going strong: Congratulations! And to everyone else: Happy Tuesday!

Sunday inspiration

Happy Sunday!

Today's inspiration comes from UK-based filmmakers Luke White and Remi Weekes. Known as Tell No One, the duo posts videos of their experiments with in-motion sculpture and other video techniques. You can see more examples of their work at their Web site, found here. Enjoy!

Wishing you all an inspirational Sunday!

What I'm craving right now...

Pumpkin Pie!

Dressing is a close second.
(On second thought, it might be a tie.)
;-)

If you're celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow, what food are you looking forward to most?
If you're not celebrating, what are you craving right now?

Look up!

I said those words to my three-year-old daughter last week as we were waiting for the school bus to bring her brother back home from kindergarten. Ever since I was a kid, I've thought that the best view of a tree was found by looking up through its branches, especially at this time of year, when the leaves have mostly fallen, leaving dark limbs silhouetted against the sky.

Yesterday was sunny and bright, a perfect day for gazing at these tree-skeletons, so I went outside with my camera and snapped a few shots. The first two are of the only tree in our front yard. There's something so dramatic and regal about it. I'm sure it would have some stories to tell.

The next shot is of my neighbor's trees. I love how delicate the branches seem, lacy against the sky—living poetry.

I'm sure it's no surprise that autumn is one of my favorite seasons. What do you enjoy most about fall?

Oh, yeah...

I found this on Pinterest last night, and it describes me so perfectly that I just had to share:

Do you do this, too? What type of person are you?

Wishing you all a happy Monday and a great week!

Sunday inspiration

This video created by Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project and Happier at Home, brings tears to my eyes. It's a heartfelt, beautiful reminder to hold on to the moments that matter.

Wishing you all a beautiful Sunday full of wonderful memories.

Location, location, location!

Happy Thursday!

Today I'm participating in the Booking Through Thursday meme hosted by Deb. Click the button below if you'd like to play along.

Here's today's question:

What’s your favorite place to read? Do you have more than one? Can you read anywhere, or do you need things to be “just right?” Bonus points for sharing a photo of your favorite spot.

I can—and do—read just about anywhere: in the car, in bed, in the bathtub, while lying on the couch or sitting on a hard bench at story time as someone else entertains my kids. I read while I brush my teeth and when I cook dinner. I read at the computer and outside at the patio table and during commercials when I'm watching TV. When I was a kid, I even read during church. I know, I know... ☺

My kitchen table, a few of my current reads, and my favorite
mug. (Yes, it's a Santa mug, but I use it year-round!) Behind
the mug is a pine tree branch that my son found and asked me
to put in water. What we won't do for our kids! ☺
My favorite place to read right now, though, is at the kitchen table, early in the morning before anyone else is awake. I get up at around 5:30 each weekday, pack my son's lunch, and then sit down with a cup of coffee and a book for a few peaceful minutes before I need to rush on to the next thing on my to-do list. I love easing into my day by immersing myself in someone else's story.

What about you? What's your favorite place to read?

What's inspiring me today

I'm feeling creative today and inspired by so many things.

♥ This song—a reminder to seize the day.

Lyrics here.

♥ Poet Ted Kooser. I try to write every day, whether it's fiction or memoir or just a vignette about something I've seen or done. Today feels like a poetry day. One of my biggest inspirations is Ted Kooser, a poet who has the ability to see so much in the simple things in life. I adore "Tattoo." The poem he reads in this video, "Daddy Longlegs," is also one of my favorites.

♥ Today's sunrise. I wish I would have thought to take a picture. The sky was gorgeous this morning, all pink and blue stripes—absolutely beautiful and inspiring!

The one about the missing blogger

I'm not missing anymore!

I apologize that I haven't been around much lately. Some of you know that I've been going through a rough time in my personal life, and I haven't felt very motivated to write. I'm happy to report, though, that things are much better now—amazingly better! Thank you for your e-mails, thoughts, and prayers. I truly appreciate them. I'm back to blogging now, and I'm excited to catch up with all of you!

And now, because today feels like a Monday to me since both my son and my husband were home yesterday—and also because I just really like this song—here's the Bangles with "Manic Monday." Wishing you all a calm and peaceful day!

Happy Friday, friends!

Here are two funny police report videos taken from "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." I hope they get your weekend off to a good start. ☺

Throwing my hat into the ring

Today is November 1, and that means it's once again time for National Novel Writing Month. I'd been debating since September about whether I would participate this year, and I finally decided to give it a go. I'm hoping to regain the writing momentum I lost several months ago. Fingers crossed!

As far as my project goes, I've decided on a chick lit idea that's been rolling around in my brain for a few weeks. Time may be an issue—isn't it for everyone?—but I'm excited to get a good start on this novel.

Are you taking part in NaNoWriMo this year? What type of book are you working on, and what are your tips for living life around NaNo? If you're not participating, what are your plans for this month?
